He with the Language of Power

Description

Inspired by "powerlanguage", the creator of r/thebutton on Reddit.

The ribbon flowing from the figure's mouth represent his words, ie his language. They travel through his hands as he communicates to us through writing, be it the button code or announcement posts. The lock represents both the lock guarding the button, as well as the fact that all are bound to the creator's words due their power, even himself. The hood mirrors its shape. He's supposed to look a little menacing, for though he watches protectively over both pressers and non-pressers, I'm sure he enjoys the turmoil he has created.

All at the beginning were initially marked with grey, determining the main monochrome palette. The creeping red indicates the creator's very recent press to now be marked with red instead.

"You may only press the button once"

I previously created a portrait of the user "GyroDawn", which can be seen here:

Let me start by saying I love this. You've got some serious skill with the color changes and visualization of this concept. I've got two major comments for it though.

First up, the hood. You've got some deep shading happening on the sides of the hood, it makes it look a bit like his head is squished in. Maybe it's just the general shape of the hood, but it looks odd to me.

Second, I like the red theme you've got at the bottom, but why is it only at the bottom? It feels like it might look nice if the words had red strokes mixed in with them, or blotches of red at different points, different sets of harmful words.

Other than those two things, I really enjoy this piece and it's definitely going into my favorites pile.
